DartmouthSports.com: What is your favorite competition/athletic memory?
Cha'Mia Rothwell: I have a lot of positive athletic memories from my time at Dartmouth, but the most special memory was when I won my fourth consecutive Heps title in the 60m Hurdles. I didn't know it at the time but that was my last race in a Dartmouth uniform, and it was my first Heps without Coach Sandy (Sandy Ford-Centonze) so that victory will always mean a lot to me.
Â
DS: Why did you choose Dartmouth?
CR: I chose Dartmouth for several reasons, but mainly because of the balance between academics and athletics. The rural environment at Dartmouth was also attractive because I knew I didn't want to go to school in a major city.
Â
DS: What food could you eat every single day?
CR: Chick-fil-A…easily. The original chicken sandwich with Chick-fil-A sauce, fries, and lemonade will never disappoint me.
Â
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
CR: I would swap places with
Julia Valenti because she's really good at pole vault. Propelling yourself 13 feet in the air with a pole is not only dangerous, but incredibly difficult and she makes it look so casual. I also just love who she is as a person and how she's always there to support her teammates no matter what.
Â
DS: If you could have played another sport, what would it be and why?
CR: I would've played basketball because I played for several years throughout my childhood and into high school. Track is really individual so it can get redundant sometimes, but the game of basketball is so exciting and dynamic. I considered the possibility of playing basketball in college, so I always wonder how different my life would've been if I chose that route.
Â
DS: What was your favorite place on campus?
CR: Leverone Field House. I've spent more time there than I'd like to admit but it's been a sanctuary for me over the last four years. It's a place where I can forget about the outside world for a little while and just focus on getting better and enjoy being in the presence of my teammates.
Â
DS: Other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life?
CR: My grandparents because I spent a lot of time with them when I was a child. Outside of my parents, they've been my biggest supporters in everything I do and so much of who I am today is a reflection of their impact on my life. Coach Sandy has also had a huge influence on my life. My Dartmouth experience wouldn't have been the same without her and much of my success throughout my collegiate career can be attributed to her.
