Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior… Sophie Ausmus of the softball team
Dartmouthsports.com: What have you been up to since returning home?
Sophie Ausmus: I've been enjoying family time that I haven't gotten in a long time. In my free time I'm still trying to find things to better myself. I've been doing a lot of long distance running and songwriting which I haven't had time to do in the past.Â
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
SA: My favorite place on campus might be my sorority, Sigma Delta. It has a lot of character and has served as a fun space for people in and out of the Greek system. It's kind of home base for a lot of my closest friends I've made while at Dartmouth. My favorite place specifically is the roof. It's a nice place to have deep conversations with people (in the spring and summer of course).
DS:Â
If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
SA: I would trade places with
Brooke Plonka. People seem to really trust her and value her friendship. She's also just excels at everything she sets her mind to.
DS: What has been your best on-field memory in your Dartmouth career?
SA: I've honestly just enjoyed every moment that someone got an opportunity to clutch up and they executed. Whether it was myself or an older teammate, younger teammate, it didn't matter. It was always equally exciting or moving. It was a physical representation of our hard work paying off. It always showed me that someone's success was everyone's success.
DS:Â
What are your post-Dartmouth plans?
SA: I will be working in Investment Banking in NYC after school, but who knows what will happen after that.Â
DS: What is your hidden talent or something that someone might not know about you?
SA: I produce my own songs and sing on an EXTREMELY novice level. It's just something fun for me to do.
DS:Â
Do you have a nickname on your team? Who gave it to you and why?
SA: A lot of the girls call me Saucy Ma because of a rap video I made with
Morgan Ebow and
Calista Almer. Saucy Ma was my rapper name in the video because I saw it on a vanity license plate once, but since then it's stuck. I know what you're thinking, but no, this video will never be released to the public.
DS: What are you going to miss most about Dartmouth?
SA: I'm going to really miss the school spirit. I think it's really special to find so many different people unite under their love and appreciation for this institution. It is a community that I know I will never be able to escape from and I'm totally okay with that.
