May 7, 2006 — Fatih Stanley '07 becomes first Dartmouth Men's Track & Field athlete to win the 100m and 200m at Heps
Junior Fatih Stanley '07 won the final of both the 100m and 200m at Penn's Franklin Field on this date 14 years ago, setting a school record in the 100m along the way.
In doing so, he won both events to become the first Dartmouth man ever to win the championship in those sprints in the same year. That was certainly true as no Big Green male runner had even won the 200m final before, while Stanley became the first Dartmouth man to win the 100m in 44 years; since Gerry Ashworth '63 won the event in 1962. Two years later, Ashworth won gold at the Tokyo Summer Olympics as the second leg of the 4x100m relay team, anchored by "Bullet" Bob Hayes who went on to become a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys and a 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.
Stanley's 100 time was 10.65 seconds, and he clocked 21.40 in the 200. Before he graduated, he would drop his best 100m time to 10.42 seconds, a Dartmouth record that still stands today.
May 7, 2016 — Anna Knowles '16 repeats as Equestrian national champion
A year after earning the first national championship in Dartmouth equestrian history, senior Anna Knowles '16 pulled off a repeat performance by winning the 2016 IHSA Teresa McDonald Scholarship Challenge at the National Championships on this date.
Knowles earned the right to compete at Nationals after earning the top score in New England Zone I on a written equine care and health knowledge test, sending her through to Nationals to represent Zone I.
At Nationals, she competed in a hands-on practicum test along with the other 14 Zone champions. In the end, it was once again Knowles who stood out above the field.
