HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth quarterback Nick Howard was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week today by the conference office for the second time this season, this time for his performance in the 41-7 victory over Cornell on Saturday.
A junior from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Howard posted career highs of 172 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 13 carries for the Big Green. He scored the first points of the game with a five-yard run in the first quarter, added a 2-yard rush across the goal line in the second quarter, then scored the final two touchdowns of the game with a 20-yard run in the third quarter and a 32-yard burst in the fourth. But his longest run of the day came shortly before his second score when he flipped the field by galloping 75 yards to the Cornell 15.
Howard previously earned this honor after the second game of the season, a 41-3 triumph over Sacred Heart in which he ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns on a mere nine rushes. Overall, Dartmouth has received seven player of the week honors from the league — three on defense, one on special teams and one for the top rookie.
The Big Green (8-1, 6-1 Ivy) moved up in the FCS national polls this week to No. 20 (Stats Perform) and No. 21 (AFCA Coaches) and will attempt to clinch at least a share of their 20th Ivy League title this week when they play at Brown (2-7, 1-5 Ivy) on Saturday at noon. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, and a free audio stream will also be available through the DartmouthSports.com website with Brett Franklin and Matt Corsetti calling the action.
Notes: The last Dartmouth player to run for as many yards as Howard was Rashaad Cooper '19 with 181 in a 24-17 win over Harvard three years ago … Howard is also just the fourth Big Green player to run for four touchdowns in a game over the past 35 years, last accomplished by Jared Gerbino'20 in a 54-44 win over Princeton to end the 2017 campaign … for the season, Howard has run for 13 touchdowns, two shy of the program record set by Al Marsters in 1929 … in addition, his 707 rushing yards on the year are the most ever by a Dartmouth QB, surpassing Gerbino's total of 700 in 2018.
