POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team dropped its first game of its first road trip to Clarkson, 5-0, at Cheel Arena on Friday evening.
Maggie Emerson played all 60 minutes between the pipes, ending the game with 31 saves.
Clarkson (8-1-2, 3-0-0) broke the scoreless tie early on in the first, finding the back of the net 26 seconds into the power play at 2:34. The score stayed 1-0 throughout the remainder of the opening period, though Dartmouth (1-3-0, 1-3-0) had a few good chances that were all turned away by goalie Michele Pasiechnyk. Emerson looked good with 10 saves in the first 20 minutes.
The second Dartmouth penalty of the game resulted in another Clarkson goal, this time 32 seconds into the power play at 5:44. Less than four minutes later, the Golden Knights were back for more, making it 3-0 around the halfway point. Emerson turned away some tough shots but couldn't stop Clarkson's fourth with 41 ticks to go.
Back for the third period and still itching for their first goal, the Green played aggressively, but were thwarted at every turn.
Abby Grexton and
Celine Pietraszek had promising chances, both of which were saved by Pasiechnyk. The Golden Knights added one more with 13.2 seconds remaining to seal the deal.
The Big Green will be back on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at St. Lawrence.
