PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Dartmouth field hockey team was defeated by Penn, 2-1, in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon at Ellen Vagelos Field.
Â
The Quakers opened the scoring six and a half minutes into the first quarter. Meghan Ward grabbed the goal with Maddy Fagan providing the assist.
Â
After a scoreless second quarter, the Big Green responded shortly into the second half. After forcing a turnover deep in Penn territory, junior
Meg Barnes collected the ball and fired it across the middle of the Quaker defensive circle to fellow junior
Holley Cromwell. Cromwell controlled the ball calmly, and with open space around her, placed it into the back of the goal for her fourth of the season and to tie the game at 1-1.
Â
Penn answered just a minute later. The Quakers had a penalty corner opportunity. Lily Clarkson played the ball to Ashley Wetzel at the top of the circle, who controlled it for Gracyn Banks. Banks' ensuing shot was placed well in the top corner to give Penn a 2-1 lead.

The Quakers held on for the 2-1 victory. This closes out the 2021 season for the Big Green.
