HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green defeated Vermont at home in an overtime thriller, 3-2, for their second-straight win, Tuesday night. Freshman forward
Lauren Messier scored the winner with just 1:32 left in overtime and senior forward
Gabby Billing scored on the power play with 1:15 left in regulation to tie the game at two.
Vermont (4-4-1) opened the scoring in the first period. They worked the puck behind the Dartmouth (3-3-0) net and found an opening to take a 1-0 lead with 7:25 left in the first. Just one minute later the Big Green answered. Messier knocked in a back hand after two quick passes from senior defender

Celine Pietraszek found her in front of the net. The score was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
The second period saw no goals and the two sides went back and forth. Freshman goalie
Maggie Emerson made a series of impressive saves to keep the score knotted at one. Dartmouth killed off two penalties in the second and Emerson made 10 saves in the period as well.
The action picked up in the third. Vermont struck just five minutes into the period. A shot from the point found its way past Emerson and into the back of the net. The Big Green continued to battle firing off 11 shots in the final period and then earned a power play with just 1:56 left on the clock. Dartmouth was able to capitalize as Billing knocked a rebound past the Catamount goalie to tie the game 2-2 with 1:15 on the clock. Sophomore forward

Annie King assisted. The 2-2 score held through the end of regulation and the game went to overtime.
The Catamounts controlled play in the early part of the five-minute three-on-three overtime period. Emerson made four impressive saves to keep the Big Green afloat. With just over a minute and a half left a pass from Hill sprung Messier on a breakaway and she fired the puck into the top shelf of the net to secure a 3-2 win for Dartmouth.
It was the second-straight win for the Big Green and it came in their first non-conference action of the season. The team returns to the ice this weekend. They hit the road for two ECAC Hockey and Ivy matchups. They face Brown, Friday night at 6 p.m. and Yale, Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
