It was announced on Wednesday that Liz Johnson has been hired to help student-athletes navigate academic, personal and career decisions
HANOVER, N.H. – Ian Connole, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Peak Performance, has announced the hiring of Liz Johnson as the new Assistant Athletics Director for Peak Performance/Varsity Sports.
"We listened to our student-athletes who asked for more direct support staff to help them navigate academic, personal and career decisions," Connole said. "The evolution of this position is designed to meet those needs and we could not have found a better person to step into that role.
"The student-athletes who met with Liz during the interview process raved about her ability to connect with them and listen to how she could support their growth and navigating the transitions to and through college," Connole continued. "She's an incredibly well-rounded athletics professional who is committed to serving others, pursuing excellence, and promoting holistic development and she will be a valuable addition to our team."
Since 2016, Johnson served as the Director of Student-Athlete Welfare and Development at Penn State, providing resources and guidance to 800+ students on 31 varsity teams. Similar to the role she will be filling at Dartmouth, she assisted the Nittany Lions in their transition from high school to college and beyond by creating, developing and managing programs to enhance personal and professional growth.
While at Penn State, Johnson was also on the Advisory Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (2019 – 21) and the STATEment Advisory and Review Team (2021), where she would help review the Penn State Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) initiative.
Prior to becoming the Director of Student-Athlete Welfare and Development, Johnson served as a Student-Athlete Development and Education Assistant and Academic Counselor at Penn State (2014-16). Before making the move to State College, she was the Director of Football Academics (2013-14) and an Athletic Academic Advisor (2011-13) at Idaho State.
Johnson graduated from East Stroudsburg in 2008 with a degree in history, where she also competed on the Warrior volleyball team. She went on to get her master's in sport and fitness administration from Winthrop in 2011.
