HANOVER, N.H. – Olivia Goodwin of the Dartmouth women's track & field team was one of 14 graduating seniors to receive the 2021 Dartmouth Legacy Award.
The honor was presented at a virtual Special Recognition Celebration held on Wednesday afternoon.
Since the mid-1980s, Dartmouth has recognized deserving seniors or other graduating students at the end of their final year who, over the course of their time at the college, have contributed substantially to the quality of life on campus.
For Goodwin — a sociology major and pole vaulter — the award was in recognition of their work at the Office of Pluralism and Leadership (OPAL) and other activities. While at OPAL, Goodwin was a Pride Mentor, a member of the Pride Committee and Co-directed
Upstaging Stereotypes in 2021.
A welcoming member of the campus community, Goodwin served as a noteworthy Peer Orientation Leader and Dartmouth Outing Club Trips Leader, helping first-years transition to the college. Their involvement and success in welcoming the 24s was noted with even greater importance this past year given the challenges of doing so in a remote or virtual setting.
"I'm so proud of what Olivia has accomplished and what they have contributed to the Dartmouth community during their time here," track & field assistant and multis event coach
Tim Wunderlich said. "Olivia's involvement with athletics, the Student Wellness Center, the Rockefeller Center, the Dartmouth LGBTQIA+ Alumni Association, and their work with the sociology department all demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusivity and authenticity. Olivia will truly leave a legacy at Dartmouth that we will all benefit from!"
Additionally, Goodwin also was a Member of the East Wheelock House Council, a Sustainability Office Intern on the Bikes Team and performed their duties as a Student Wellness Center Intern.
Those who nominated Goodwin made special note to highlight the kind, compassionate and caring nature in which they carried themselves in four years as a member of the Dartmouth community.
