HANOVER, N.H. – Women's rugby head coach
Katie Dowty has been named the USA Rugby Under-23 head coach.
"I'm always motivated to help grow the game and I am especially proud to support driven young athletes on their journey to international rugby," Dowty said. "There is still so much untapped rugby potential in the States, and as the collegiate game and NCAA initiative grows, this is a great opportunity to continue advancing the women's game in particular."
While with the U23 team, Dowty will wear many hats, including scouting, running talent identification camps, and hosting a week-long camp that culminates with a match or two against comparable university-age international teams.
After the COVID-19 hiatus, the program will include remote and regional trainings that will be in full swing at the conclusion of the 2021-22 collegiate seasons.
Following the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games and the Women's World Cup in New Zealand (October – November 2022), many of these young players will have the opportunity to vie for selection to the Senior Women's National Teams in the new cycle, with an eye on the 2024 Olympics and the 2025 Rugby World Cup.
Those duties have already begun, will continue through 2022 and will be in addition to her head-coaching duties at Dartmouth. Dowty will be returning to Hanover for year seven at the helm of the Big Green program.
