Sean Williams Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

The freshman strong safety had seven tackles and a big fourth-quarter interception at Yale
PRINCETON, N.J. — The Ivy League announced its weekly football award winners today, and Dartmouth freshman Sean Williams was selected as the Rookie of the Week. This is the first weekly award for a Big Green player this season, and Williams is the first rookie to win this honor since Paxton Scott in September of 2021.
Williams, a 5-9, 185-pound safety from Nolensville, Tennessee, made the second start of his career at Yale. Not only did he provide seven tackles, but he also picked off a pass deep in Dartmouth territory early in the fourth quarter and returned it 56 yards to the Bulldog 37. He very nearly went all the way for a pick-six, but he was just clipped in the heel by the only player between him and the goal line. It was just the second interception by the Big Green secondary this season.
Three other Dartmouth players were recognized on the weekly honor roll: senior wide receiver Jonny Barrett who set career highs of 12 catches and 132 receiving yards as well as a touchdown reception; junior quarterback Dylan Cadwallader who completed 28-of-45 passes for 248 yards and two scores, plus ran for another touchdown, all in his first career start; and linebacker Macklin Ayers who contributed a game- and career-high 16 tackles, and now ranks second among FCS players at 12.8 tackles per game.
Later in the day, both Williams and Ayers earned honorable mention from Stats Perform for its FCS National Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week awards.
The Big Green next host New Hampshire this Saturday, Oct. 15, for the Granite Bowl, pitting the only two Division I teams in the state against each other. The series is deadlocked at 19-19-2 with the Big Green winning the last two meetings, including last year's 38-21 triumph in Durham. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ featuring Matt Corsetti and Steve Goldberg on the call at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also tune into the audio broadcast called by Brett Franklin and Wayne Young '72 through either the official website of Dartmouth Athletics, DartmouthSports.com, or the Dartmouth Sports app.
