Â
Dartmouth improves to 6-4-2 while Merrimack drops to 6-6-3.
Â
Allie Winstanley scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 89
th minute.
Aleena Seales scored the first for Dartmouth on the night to bring her season total to four.
Mary Lundregan assisted on the first two goals and now has six assists for the season.
Charlotte Cyr made eight saves in net for the Big Green.
Â
Rebecca Harty and Molly Murnane each scored for the Warriors with Ella Cormier picking up an assist. Lily Morgan made 11 saves in goal.
Â
Dartmouth nearly opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes. Merrimack gave away possession inside their own box and Winstanley took advantage, picking up the ball with a clear path to goal but the left-footed strike was denied by Morgan to keep the game scoreless.
Â
The Warriors took their first lead of the night in the just a few moments later with a long distance shot in the 16
th minute. After forcing a turnover deep in Dartmouth territory, Cormier played a perfect lay-off for Harty to hit first time from 30 yards out to bend in the top corner of the far post.
Â
Both sides had chances throughout the remainder of the half but both keepers stood tall with Merrimack taking a 1-0 lead into the half. The second half, however, was a different story.
Â
The Big Green came out strong in the second half, tying the game in the 51
st minute. Merrimack attempted to play a long ball forward, but
Grace Faulkner got to the ball first and passed the ball to Lundregan. Lundregan took a touch to get around the Warriors' midfielder and played a long looping through ball over the Merrimack defense. Seales showed her speed, beating the defender to the ball before striking the ball from just outside the box to chip it over Morgan into the back of the net to level the game at 1-1.
Merrimack almost took the lead back a minute later when a long through ball sent Cormier in on goal. It was a 1v1 situation, but Cyr was positioned well to come up with the crucial save. The Warriors did take the lead with just under 19 minutes remaining in the match. Murnane picked up a loose ball off a turnover from the Big Green, took a touch inside the box and fired off a shot to the top left corner to take a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Big Green tied up the game for the second time with their second goal coming in the 78
th minute. Lundregan picked up the ball on the left wing, dribbling down towards to 18-yard box before cutting across the middle and playing a chipped through ball over the defense to the back post to Winstanley. Winstanley beat the Merrimack goalkeeper to the ball and shot the ball back across goal with just enough power to hit off the post and into the net.
Â
The second goal gave Dartmouth all the momentum as they continued to send shot after shot towards with all of them being thwarted by the Merrimack back line and goalkeeper. That is, until the 89
th minute. Down near the end line on the right wing,
Daisy Granholm crossed the ball into the box that was headed out by a Merrimack defender. The clearance was not strong enough though, as the bouncing ball was struck by Winstanley into the goal with so much power that you would have thought it put a hole in the net, giving the Big Green a 3-2 lead and ultimately the win.
Dartmouth looks to carry the momentum into Saturday's Ivy League game against Penn at Burnham Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
