Â
"I thought Charlotte played an amazing game in goal for us, she made save after save," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Ron Rainey. "Princeton is a good team and I felt like we battled through the 90 minutes. There's a couple of moments where we want to connect a bit better in the attacking half to create 1-2 more chances a half."
Â
The Big Green finished with four shots on target.
Charlotte Cyr made a career-high 10 saves in goal for the Big Green.
Â
Pietra Tordin scored one goal and assisted another for the Tigers. Heather McNab scored the other goal while Lily Bryant also had an assist. Ella Gantman made three saves to earn the clean sheet.
Â
It didn't take long for the Big Green to get their first chance of the morning just a few minutes into the match. A cross from
Allie Winstanley was forced out by a Princeton defender.
Juliet Moncho took the corner kick, playing a high ball into the box which was met by the head of
Aleena Seales. The ball fell for
Sydney Brown for the redirect, but it was cleared off the line by the Princeton defense.
Â
The Tigers took the lead in the seventh minute. Pietra Tordin received the ball just inside the Dartmouth half and brought down into the Big Green box before slipping it past Cyr to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
Princeton almost added to their lead in the 10
th minute but an acrobatic save from Cyr knocked the ball off the crossbar and out of play for a corner kick.
Winstanley nearly tied the game midway through the opening half. She received the ball on the right side from Brown before cutting back towards the middle and firing a left-footed shot just wide of the frame.
Â
Two corners for the Tigers in the 32
nd minute forced Cyr to make three saves from close range to keep the deficit at one.
Â
Dartmouth came out of halftime and controlled the opening few minutes of the second half. The Big Green had a great chance at tying the game after
Aspen Anderson crossed the ball from the left wing into the box to Winstanley, who almost got a shot off before it was poked away and out for a corner by Princeton.
Â
Princeton added to their lead in the 88
th minute. A quick restart from the Tigers led to a through ball inside the box that McNab slid into the back of the net.
Â
Rainey finished by saying "I felt our team reacted very well through the weekend after having a game postponed from Saturday to Sunday and I am really proud of us in that regard."
