HANOVER, N.H. –The Dartmouth women's soccer team picked up their first Ivy League point of the season after a 0-0 draw against Yale on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field.
Â
Dartmouth moves to 5-4-2, 0-2-1 while Yale is now 4-5-2, 1-1-1.
Â
The Big Green were anchored by goalkeeper
Charlotte Cyr throughout the match. Yale peppered the senior with 15 shots on goal, which were all turned away. The 15 saves mark a career high for Cyr.
Â
Making her first start of the season, Marisa Shorrock made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs to earn the shutout.
Â
The Big Green almost opened the scoring early in the first half. In the 13
th minute, after making a move to get around the defender,
Allie Winstanley struck a low-driven shot from just outside the box to the bottom left corner that was met by a strong right hand from Shorrock to knock the ball wide of the goal and out for a corner.
Â
Yale's first chance of the afternoon came shortly before halftime. Alanna Butcher launched a shot from 25 yards out, but it was tipped over the crossbar by Cyr.
Â
Dartmouth nearly got on the board in the 50
th minute. A set piece down the left wing near the corner led to an in-swinging free kick that almost found its way into the back of the net but the Yale defense managed to clear it away.
Â
The Bulldogs had an opportunity in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but the shot from Chloe Laureano was curled just wide of the goal.
Â
The best chance of the day belonged to Yale with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. A through ball inside the box went to an open Tanner Cahalan, but it was Cyr who stood tall in the 1v1 to make the save. The rebound fell to Meredith Phillps. A quick reaction from Cyr forced Phillps to send the shot high off the woodwork and out for a corner to keep the game level.
Â
Dartmouth has a quick turnaround as it is back in action on Monday evening for a non-conference tilt with Merrimack. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the game available for streaming on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
Notes: Cyr now holds the top three spots in the Ivy League for saves in a game this season.
