THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth welcomes defending Ivy League Champion Brown and Yale, who's currently tied for first in the Ancient Eight, as the Big Green battle at Leede Arena for a second straight weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth struggled to find a rhythm in a three-set loss against Princeton, but bounced back after a day off to defeat Penn, 3-1. In what will certainly go down as a memorable day for the Big Green, the program hosted its first-ever nationally televised match at Leede Arena and aside from the Quakers' set-securing run in the third, Dartmouth looked excellent on the big screen.
Ellie Blain racked up 13 kills with a .435 hitting percentage and
Amelia Gibbs followed with 10 kills at a .412 clip. With three aces, Blain was also the catalyst behind Dartmouth's season-high-tying 11 aces.
LAST TIME VERSUS BROWN
Dartmouth, like most Ivies, went winless against the Bears in 2021. The Big Green suffered a season-ending three-set loss on senior day at the hands of Brown, but did show some progress. Dartmouth hit just .059 on the road against that squad, but upped that percentage to .127 in November's matchup at Leede Arena. Brown went on to lose to Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
LAST TIME VERSUS YALE
Dartmouth was slow out of the gates in Ivy League play last year, but proved to be a tough out later in the season with a five-match win streak. Part of that stretch was a five-set win over Yale at Leede Arena - the first time the Big Green had defeated the Bulldogs since 2015. Gibbs had a career day with 15 kills (.448) in that win, which avenged the four-set loss Yale handed Dartmouth in New Haven a month prior. Dartmouth hasn't beaten Yale in consecutive meetings since 1999.
SATURDAY'S SERVES
Look for plenty of aces as Dartmouth and Yale battle it out on Saturday. The Big Green rank fourth in the nation in aces per set with 2.2, while their Ivy League brethren average 2.02 and rank ninth in the country. Yale's Cara Shultz ranks second nationally in aces per set (0.82), but racks up a comparable number of errors as aggressive servers often do.
Ava Roberts leads a balanced Dartmouth squad with 0.49 aces per set, but has only eight total service errors on the season compared to her 18 aces.
BOMI'S BLOCKS
Bomi Ogunlari is on pace for one of the best seasons in program history in that regard. The junior currently averages 1.17 blocks per set and the single-season program record stands at 1.18, set by Tola Akinwumi in 2018. After notching five (3S, 2A) against Penn, Ogunlari needs one more for 50 blocks on the season.
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Big Green are on the road next weekend for the Columbia/Cornell trip. They'll return to Leede Arena Friday, Oct. 21 to host Harvard for a 7 p.m. first serve.
