ITHACA, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team fell to Cornell, 1-0, in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field in Ithaca, New York.
Dartmouth finishes the season at 8-7-2, 1-5-1 while Cornell ends the year with a record of 4-7-5, 2-3-2.
"While this is not the result we wanted today, this was another close Ivy League game," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Ron Rainey. "We look forward to the off season getting better as a group."
The Big Green had nine corner kicks while
Charlotte Cyr made 10 saves, marking the third time she reached double digits this season.
Reagan Pauwels scored the lone goal of the match for the Big Red. Erica Fox made three saves in goal to pick up the clean sheet.
Cornell opened the scoring midway through the second half. The Big Red had a throw in deep in Dartmouth territory. Julia Reineman's initial shot was blocked but the loose ball fell into the path of Pauwels and she was able to sneak it past Cyr to put Cornell up 1-0.
Danielle Burke nearly tied the game with 14 minutes remaining.
Sydney Brown played it forward to
Daisy Granholm. Granholm made the one touch pass to her left and deflected forward off of a Cornell defender, perfectly into the path of Burke. Burke headed towards goal, but her shot was saved by Fox.
The Big Green put the pressure on as they searched for the equalizer. Dartmouth had three corner kicks within the final 90 seconds but were unable to take advantage.
Rainey finished by saying, "I also want to thank and show appreciation to our senior class who has put in four years of hard work. We look forward to seeing all of their next steps in the future"
Dartmouth finished with a winning record for the third time in the last four seasons.
