HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team fell, 64-49, to Drexel before a packed Leede Arena on Tuesday afternoon as the program hosted its annual Education Day, which welcomed more than 1,000 local elementary students.
Dartmouth moved to 2-8 on the season, while Drexel improved to 6-3.
Victoria Page, following Saturday's career-high 25 points in a road win, posted a team-high 22 to pace the Dartmouth offense. Drexel was led by the nation's third-leading scorer, Keishana Washington, who dropped a game-high 32. With 13 points,
Mia Curtis was the only other player on either side to score in double figures.
Emma Koch grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Big Green trailed by just one following the first quarter, but were outscored, 20-10, in the second as the Dragons raced to a 35-24 halftime lead. Only four points represented the difference between the non-conference foes in the second half, but the deficit proved too much for Dartmouth to overcome.
Trailing 8-3 early, the Big Green put together an 11-0 run, capped by
Allie Harland's 3-pointer, to claim a 14-8 edge midway through the opening quarter. Drexel reclaimed the lead minutes later on Jasmine Valentine's layup.
Page knocked down her first of three triples in the opening minute of the second quarter to put her team back on top, 17-15. A 13-1 Dragons run followed as the visitors grabbed a double-digit advantage before Dartmouth saw a boost from
Camryn Foltz's steal and Page's fastbreak layup. Koch nailed a 3-pointer in response to Drexel's bucket, and Page's free throws marked the end of a two-minute drought for both teams as Dartmouth came within five, 29-24. The Dragons, scoring the final six points before the break, capped the first half with Washington's buzzer-beating jumper.
Mia Curtis connected on a 3-pointer to open the third-quarter scoring, but Drexel had the answer with back-to-back Washington scores. The Big Green trailed by 12 before another triple by Page to cut the deficit to single digits. The Dragons claimed a 50-32 lead, their largest to that point, with Brianne Borcky's triple at the 2:18 mark. Curtis scored a quick five points in the final minutes of the third as Dartmouth trailed by 15 heading into the fourth.
The Big Green looked for their chance to make a run when Page hit a 3-pointer, engaging the raucous crowd, but Grace O'Neill answered with a Dragons trey. Drexel stretched its lead to 20, 64-44, in the final minutes before Dartmouth scored the game's final five points, including Page's and-one.
Dartmouth travels to California to take part in the Beach Classic, which will pit the Big Green against Long Beach State and UC Irvine. Dartmouth is set to take on the host, Long Beach State, on Friday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. EST (3:30 p.m. PST). The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
