3/15/2022 1:31:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, Athletics
Big Green men and women's lacrosse teams have a successful week on the field.
The lacrosse teams are well on their way to replicating the starts they had in the 2020 season before things shut down for 2021. Senior Daniel Hincks has backstopped the men's team to a 3-1 record, including a career-high 20 saves in the win over Vermont. Junior midfielder Katie Elders tossed in a career-high six goals and added an assist to down the Merrimack Warriors, 16-5.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Daniel Hincks, Sr., Newtonville, Mass., GK, Men's Lacrosse
Daniel Hincks had a career-high 20 saves in the 8-7 win over Vermont on Tuesday, holding a team averaging 12.00 goals per game to far less. Despite two quick goals in the fourth quarter that cut the lead to one, Hincks never lost his composure, coming up with an impressive stop with 28 seconds left to hold on to the win. The senior was also added to the Watch List for the Tewaaraton Award. He leads the Ivy League in goals against average (8.25), save percentage (.660) and saves per game (16.00).
Katie Elders, Jr., Darien, Conn., M, Women's Lacrosse
Junior Katie Elders of the women's lacrosse team scored a career-high six goals while chipping in one assist for seven points in the Big Green's 16-5 win over Merrimack in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. In the first-ever matchup between the two teams, the Darien, Connecticut native scored 42 seconds into the second quarter for a 3-1 Dartmouth lead. She followed that up with another goal in the second, made it a trifecta in the third and added three more in the fourth quarter to wrap up the game.
