PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dartmouth men's golf team played the final five holes of the Princeton Invitational at a combined 5-under par to secure its place in seventh in the team standings with a total of 867 (+15), carding a 289 in each of the three rounds. Senior
Charles Petrie produced the low score of the day for the Big Green with a 1-under 70 while senior
Mark Turner shot even par.
Petrie was a little inconsistent at the start of the round with a bogey on two, birdie on three and double bogey on five. But he was on his game the rest of the day with three more birdies and 10 pars to conclude the tournament with a 73-71-70—214 (+1), tying him for 16th. His 11 birdies over the three rounds led Dartmouth as well.
Turner had the best overall finish for Dartmouth on the 6,444-yard, par-71 Springdale Golf Course, tying for eighth in the 78-player field at even par (213). The day began ominously, however, with a double bogey on the first hole, but he sank birdies on four holes, including two of the last six, to get back to even for the round and the tournament with 10 birdies to his credit.
Jason Liu had a steady round, making par on 13 holes with three bogeys going into the final two holes. The graduate kicked it up a notch then, dropping birdies on both 17 and 18 to card a 1-over 72 and finish up at 5-over for the tournament, tied for 31st.
Fifth-year senior
James Turner also scored for the Green today with a 5-over 76 featuring three birdies, leaving him in a tie for 46th with a 9-over 222. Sophomore
Alex Gu was just one stroke behind Turner in the round with 12 pars and a birdie, closing out the tournament in a tie for 65th at 16-over par.
Host Princeton took the team title, beating out its "B" team by a single stroke with a 7-under 845, while Seton Hall placed third at even par. The Big Green were seven strokes behind sixth-place Yale and seven ahead of eighth-place Rider and Georgetown.
The Tigers' William Huang ran away with medalist honors with a 10-under 203, six strokes ahead of Temple's Conor McGrath.
Dartmouth will have one final tuneup before the Ivy League Championship by playing in the Yale Invitational next Saturday.
