HANOVER, N.H. — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today announced its Academic All-District Teams for softball, and Dartmouth pitcher
Brooke Plonka was recognized on the team from District I. She is one of three Ivy Leaguers to earn a spot on the team.
To be considered, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least one full calendar year and reached sophomore athletic eligibility. Plonka will now go on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration with the first-, second- and third-team honorees being announced next month.
Named to the All-Ivy League Second Team earlier today, Plonka is a neuroscience major with a 3.39 grade-point average and the workhorse of the Ancient Eight in the circle. The 5-10 senior left-hander from Marilla, New York, led the conference with 12 victories, 27 appearances, 25 starts, 13 complete games, five shutouts and 136.0 innings. Opponents hit just .204 against Plonka, and her 117 strikeouts were the third most in the Ivy League. She also tossed the eighth no-hitter in program history in a 3-1 win over Brown on April 9. In league play, hitters managed to hit just .173 against Plonka as she went 8-3 and twice was named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week.
The 2021-22 Academic All-District SoftballTeam recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Notes: Plonka is the first Big Green softball player to earn this accolade since Morgan McCalmon and Katie McEachern in 2016, and the fourth ever (Kelly Fry, 2007).
