HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League office announced its final weekly softball award winners of the season today, and Dartmouth swept the honors with second baseman
Billie McFadyen being named the Player of the Week for the second straight week and pitcher
Megan Hagge earning both the Pitcher and Rookie of the Week awards.
McFadyen, a 5-0 senior from Flower Mound, Texas, was a crucial cog in helping Dartmouth win its final Ivy League series of the season against Cornell. Her two-run triple in the fifth inning of the opener were the game's only runs of the 2-0 Big Green victory. After Dartmouth dropped the second game, 3-1, during which McFadyen reached base twice on a single and a walk, she had two of the Big Green's five hits and drew a walk while scoring a run in the 4-0 victory in the season finale. For the series, McFadyen hit .444 (4-for-9) with a triple, two walks, a run and two RBIs, raising her average to .350 overall (fourth in the league) and .403 in Ivy League play (second in the Ancient Eight).
A native of Sanford, Florida, Hagge was untouchable in the circle against the Big Red. Making just her fifth start of the season in the opener, the 6-1 freshman held Cornell scoreless for six innings on six hits without a walk while fanning five en route to a 2-0 victory, her third of the season. Then in the second game of the doubleheader, she returned to twirl four no-hit innings of relief, issuing one walk to go with a pair of punchouts. Hagge finished the weekend with 10 shutout stanzas to her credit, lowering her ERA on the season a full run to 4.12 over 51.0 frames.
Dartmouth ended the season with an overall mark of 20-24 but owned a record of 14-7 in the Ivy League, finishing in third place, three games behind regular-season champion Princeton (a team the Big Green beat two out of three) and one game behind Harvard. Those two teams will play in the Ivy Championship Series on Friday and Saturday with the Tigers serving as host.
Notes: The last Big Green player to be named the Ivy Player of the Week at least twice in a season was Micah Schroder in 2019 (three times) … this is the second time this season a Dartmouth player has earned back-to-back weekly awards as
Brooke Plonka was named the Pitcher of the Week on April 4 and 12.
