58 members of the Class of 2024 across 22 sports participated in the six-week leadership course
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth Peak Performance's DRIVE Program, which seeks to build student-athletes' leadership abilities, wrapped up Thursday, July 28 with 58 members of the Class of 2024 across 22 sports receiving certificates marking completion of the six-week course.
Led by Stephen Gonzalez, the Corrigan Family Assistant Athletics Director for Leadership and Mental Performance, the DRIVE Program promotes the core values of development, resilience, ingenuity, valor and excellence. The participants met on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout their sophomore summers and received valuable lessons while building camaraderie amongst their fellow classmates as they enter the second half of their collegiate experiences.
"This year's DRIVE Class was outstanding in how they leaned into challenges and were open to learning new ideas and concepts," Gonzalez said. "The Class of 2024 had a unique first year during the pandemic, so to see them engage with each other and build lasting friendships brought joy to my heart."
In addition to several guest speakers, women's basketball's Mekkena Boyd and football's Macklin Ayers were chosen to address their fellow graduates of the program during July's ceremony. The nearly 60 members of the class join a long list of Dartmouth student-athletes who have completed the DRIVE Program since its inception in 2013.
