HANOVER, N.H. — Filling out his coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season, Dartmouth head men's basketball coach
David McLaughlin announced on Thursday the addition of Dan Ryan as assistant coach. Ryan comes to Hanover from the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he had been since May of 2020, serving as director of player personnel. He has previous experience at Boston University, Belmont and Illinois State in various positions.
"We're thrilled to have Dan join our staff," said McLaughlin. "For a younger coach, he brings a wide range of experience. He is very intrinsically motivated. He has a really good feel for how important relationship-building is, both within the staff and on the court with the players. I feel like he has a really good feel for the game of basketball and will be able to develop our guys."
While at UIC, Ryan assumed the role of assistant coach and offensive coordinator from June to August of 2021. He became the lead recruiter for several prospective student-athletes in the class of 2022, while scouting and recruiting various club tournaments all over the country. In his time, Ryan also served in offensive quality control, plus was head of international prospect evaluation and academic liaison.

"I could not be more excited to join the Dartmouth men's basketball program," said Ryan. "I am incredibly grateful to Coach McLaughlin for the opportunity. I look forward to helping our student-athletes maximize themselves as players and as people on a daily basis."
At Ryan's prior stop, he served as video coordinator with Boston University, responsible for video edits and statistical analysis. Ryan was also director of basketball operations at Belmont for the 2018-19 season, working extensively in scouting/video analysis processes, analyzing overall opponent personnel and more. The year prior, Ryan served as graduate assistant with Belmont. As an undergraduate student, Ryan was a team manager at Illinois State.
Ryan has additional experience with camp and club coaching. He has served as head coach with Upward Stars Youth Basketball, Bloomington WarHawk Youth Basketball and Kessel Heat Youth Basketball. His camp experience includes time at Davidson, Loyola Chicago, Illinois State and Butler.
