HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's soccer team is set to open Ivy League action this Saturday, Oct. 1, as the Big Green host the Princeton Tigers. Following a strong performance in its last match, Dartmouth looks to start conference play strong against the defending Ivy League champion.
The Big Green last took the field on Sept. 24 against the Stonehill Skyhawks in Hanover.
David Alino scored four consecutive goals to lead his team to an emphatic 6-0 win, the team's first at Burnham Field this season.
Fallou Ndiaye and
George Altirs also scored their first goals with Dartmouth in the victory, while
Costi Christodoulou and
Dylan Buchanan combined for a shutout.
Dartmouth and Princeton both set to kick off the conference portion of their schedules on Saturday. The Tigers, led by head coach Jim Barlow in his 27
th season, come to Hanover with a record of 3-3-1, with wins over Penn State, Loyola and Rider. The Tigers last took the pitch against St. John's on the road, dropping their final nonconference test, 2-1, on Tuesday.
The Big Green and Tigers have squared off 72 times in an all-time series that dates back to 1922. Princeton holds a 39-24-9 lead on Dartmouth and the Big Green hold a slim 17-16-2 advantage on the Tigers in home matches. Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Bo Oshoniyi has gone 1-1-1 against the Tigers in his tenure at Dartmouth.
AMAZING ALINO: PLAYER OF THE WEEK & NATIONAL LEADER
Senior forward
David Alino had a career performance last weekend against Stonehill, notching four goals for the Big Green in just 37 minutes of play.
His performance marked the first time a men's soccer player at Dartmouth scored four times in one game since Egil Stigum accomplished the feat on Nov. 4, 1955 against Brown.
Alino is currently tied with six other athletes for the highest goals per game total in the nation and leads the Ivy League outright. The Stratford, Conn. native averages 1.00 goals per game.
For his efforts against Stonehill, Alino was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 26. He is the second member of the Big Green to earn such honors, joining
Costi Christodoulou, who was honored on Sept. 6.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton is led offensively by senior Ryan Clare, who leads his team with four goals and eight points on the season.
Clare scored game winning goals against Penn State and Loyola.
The goalkeeping tandem of William Watson and Khamari Hadaway has seen all the action for Princeton through seven matches. Watson's save percentage of .733 ranks eighth in the Ivy League.
Last season, the Tigers went undefeated in conference play, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament in the process. Princeton finished the 2021 season with a record of 12-6-0.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE TIGERS
Last season, Dartmouth opened its Ivy League schedule against Princeton at Burnham Field on Oct. 2, 2022.
The Big Green erased a 2-0 deficit to force the match to overtime, but a goal from Princeton's Malik Pinto in the second overtime sealed the match for the visitors.
Tom Collins and
Ohad Yahalom found the back of the net for Dartmouth, while
Louis Weisdorf contributed an assist.
ISSIAH BURNELL JOINS THE BIG GREEN THROUGH TEAM IMPACT
The Big Green welcomed a new member to its roster on Sept. 24, as Issiah Burnell was signed to the men's soccer team through Team IMPACT.
Issiah, who has Spina Bifida, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference at the Reilly Pavilion. He will participate in many activities with the team including games, practices and other team events.
