HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory over LIU in nonconference action on Thursday evening at Burnham Field.
Â
Dartmouth improves to 3-1-1 while LIU drops to 2-5.
Â
"We had a perfect day to play and sometimes there's nothing better than to be in September, get a little dew on the field, have the ball being played fast and people playing hard," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Ron Rainey. "I felt like a lot of people took moments and opportunities to show really well for Dartmouth."
Â
Allie Winstanley and
Aleena Seales were the goal scorers tonight for the Big Green with Winstanley picking up the game winner and Seales scoring her team-leading third goal of the season.
Hailey Rorick and
Sydney Brown both had assists for Dartmouth.
Â
The Big Green opened the scoring in the 26
th minute through a goal from Winstanley. After a throw-in near midfield for the Sharks,
Dasa Hase reacted quickly off the throw and hit a long ball down the right wing into open space. Winstanley made the 25-yard sprint to get to the ball first, immediately cutting back towards the middle and the penalty spot before getting off a well-placed left-footed shot past LIU goalkeeper Kayla DeTreux for the 1-0 lead.
Â
With only two shots on goal, the best chance of the night for the Sharks came in the 60
th minute. After a long free kick from just inside their half, LIU gained possession in the Big Green defensive third. After several shorts passes, Morgan Sigut fired a shot from 25-yards out that looked to be going into the top corner of the net, but
Charlotte Cyr had something else in mind. Cyr made a full extension dive to tip the ball over the crossbar and out for a corner kick.
Â
Â
The Big Green sealed the victory in the 69
th minute when Seales scored her third of the season. Brown chipped the ball towards Rorick at the top of the 18-yard box, who flicked it on to a running Seales for the first touch shot around DeTreux.
Â
Dartmouth has a quick turnaround as they will host Fairfield on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
Â
Notes: All three Dartmouth victories this season have been by a score of 2-0.
