PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated Brown, 4-3, on Friday evening in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at Meehan Auditorium. The Big Green improve to 3-15-1, 2-9-1 while Brown drops to 7-11-2, 3-8-2.
Cooper Flinton led the way with two goals and one assist.
Joey Musa and
Cam MacDonald each finished with one goal and one assist.
Sean Chisholm chipped in two assists while
Matt Hubbarde,
Tanner Palocsik and
Ian Pierce each had one. Dartmouth scored two of their goals on the power play.
The Big Green held the edge in faceoffs, 50-32, and shots on goal, 25-22.
Luke Krys had one goal and two assists for Brown. Brett Bliss finished with one goal and one assist while Thomas Manty scored the other goal for the Bears.
Brown jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. After
Tucker McRae received a minor for tripping, the Bears took advantage with the extra skater as Krys shot one through traffic into the net for the power play goal.
The Big Green scored a power play goal of their minutes later. Dartmouth won the ensuing faceoff after Brown's Jonny Russell was called for kneeing. It took them just nine seconds to take advantage as Chisholm fired a shot towards goal that was tipped by MacDonald past Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron to tie the game with his first collegiate goal.
After the Bears took a 2-1 lead just minutes into the second period, the Big Green responded 90 seconds later to tie the game. Hubbarde, from the middle, passed the puck out towards the right to a wide-open Musa, who shot a rocket of a shot into the back of the net for the equalizer.
Brown took their third lead of the night midway through the middle frame, but Dartmouth tied it up for the third time as time ran down towards the second intermission. The Big Green scored their second power play goal of the night with 26.5 seconds remaining. After winning the faceoff, Pierce passed it out wide to Flinton, who fired a quick shot to the top right corner of the net past the glove of Caron.
The game-winning goal came late in the third period from the Big Green when Flinton scored his second goal of the game. Musa drew the pressure from Caron before passing back towards the front of goal to Flinton, who was able to tuck it home with the empty net for his first career game-winning goal.
Dartmouth takes on the Yale Bulldogs tomorrow evening at Ingalls Rink in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
Notes: Both Dartmouth power play goals came within 10 seconds of having the advantage… Tonight's win is Dartmouth's first road win of the season.
