Sports are based on numbers, this week's athletes put up big numbers for the Green and White
Athletic endeavors are a numbers game. There was no shortage of impressive numbers racked up by this week's outstanding athletes. Freshman women's hockey goaltender had 25 saves against Assumption and 20 more in a, 4-2, win over Ivy rival Harvard. Senior Paxton Scott had a personal best 10 receptions on his way to a career-high 185 receiving yards.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Eleanor Rogers, Fr., Locust Valley, N.Y., G, Women's Hockey
Making her collegiate debut on Tuesday against Assumption, Rogers made 25 saves between the pipes to earn her first win while giving Dartmouth its first season-opening win since the 2015-16 season.
She followed that up with 20 saves on Friday night to help the Big Green to a 4-2 victory over Harvard, giving Dartmouth its first 2-0 start since the 2014-15 year.
On Tuesday the freshman goaltender was honored by ECAC hockey as well, being named Rookie of the Week.
Paxton Scott, Sr., Dallas, Texas, WR, Football
Senior wide receiver Paxton Scott played a big role in Dartmouth rallying from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime at Colgate, matching a personal best with 10 catches and setting a career-high with 185 receiving yards, the latter of which are the 11th-most for a Big Green receiver in a single game. His 65-yard grab late in the fourth quarter put Dartmouth in position to take the lead for the first time, but the Green fumbled the ball away on the next play. In overtime, he fought his way after a short catch to the first-down marker for a 16-yard gain to give Dartmouth an opportunity to at the very least tie the game with a field goal, but that eventual attempt was blocked to end the game in a 27-24 road loss to the Raiders.
