HANOVER, N.H. — Following a tremendous performance against Brown on Saturday, Dartmouth field hockey freshman
Ella Bowman has been named Ivy League Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. Bowman scored both Big Green goals in Dartmouth's 2-0 win over Brown, the program's first Ivy League win since 2018. On the other end of the field, Bowman is a starting center back who plays every minute, helping the Big Green post their first shutout since 2021 and Ivy League shutout since 2012.
On Saturday, Bowman gave Dartmouth a 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke at the 26:24 mark, before making it 2-0 off a penalty corner at 37:27. That score stood as the final, helping the Big Green snap their 25-game Ivy League losing streak; it was Dartmouth's first Ivy League shutout since a 2-0 win over Penn on Sept. 29, 2012. It was also the first time the Big Green had shut out Brown since September 10, 2005.
On Saturday, Dartmouth allowed zero second-quarter shots and just three in the third as the Big Green opened the 2-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. On Sunday vs. New Hampshire (a team in the top 30 nationally in RPI), Bowman and the Big Green held the Wildcats scoreless for a stretch of 36:29 as Dartmouth turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.
Sophomore
Ava Carlson also garnered honorable mention recognition after an eight-save shutout on Saturday, then a career-high 10 stops against UNH Sunday.
The Big Green return to action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia to face Penn on Saturday and La Salle on Sunday.
