DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week - Takacs and Campbell
10/24/2023 12:45:00 PM | Equestrian, Football, Athletics
E is for equestrian, F is for football - The Big Green excelled in both this week.
Â
Despite a rainy homecoming weekend, the Big Green pulled out two exciting victories. Sophomore Patrick Campbell made the wet field even more miserable for the visiting Columbia Lions by roving all over the field for the football team defense. Campbell blocked a punt and intercepted a pass among other defensive plays in a 20-9 win. Just outside of town is Morton farm which is home to the Dartmouth equestrian team. First year rider Samantha Takacs earned Most Outstanding Player over fences along with her horse, Alvarino.
Â
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Patrick Campbell, So., Snellville, Ga. DB, Football
Â
Sophomore Patrick Campbell made the big plays that made Dartmouth's 20-9 homecoming victory over Columbia possible. After the Big Green had fallen behind 9-0 in the first quarter, it was his punt block at the Lions 15 and recovery in the end zone that turned the tide, closing the gap to two. In the third quarter with Dartmouth leading by a 17-9 score, he intercepted a Columbia pass at the Big Green 28 to stop a potential game-tying drive. That pickoff led to a 47-yard field goal, increasing the lead to 11 points. And when the Lions went for it on fourth-and-goal at the Dartmouth 4 with 8:03 remaining, it was Campbell who hit the receiver and jarred the ball free before he could complete the catch, giving the ball back to the Big Green and keeping the Lions from possibly closing within a field goal.
Â
Â
Samantha Takacs, Fy., Lebanon, N.J., Equestrian
Â
Samantha Takacs won her point in both the flat and over fences to help the Big Green defeat No. 2 Sweet Briar on Saturday at Morton Farm. Takacs won her point over fences, 86-72, to earn the meet's Most Outstanding Player over fences riding Alvarino. In the flat, Takacs won, 79-60. The final score of the meet was 4-4, but Dartmouth won 632-619 in raw points, coming over a Sweet Briar team that advanced to last season's national championship for NCEA single discipline.
