PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The pressure was on for the Dartmouth men's soccer team when Brown broke a scoreless tie in the 81st minute, and the Big Green weren't able to come up with the equalizer in a 1-0 loss at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday night.
Dartmouth dropped to 4-8-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in the Ivy League, while Brown improved to 5-4-6 and 2-0-4 in the Ancient Eight, increasing its unbeaten streak to 10 and evading a fourth straight scoreless tie.
Big Green goalkeeper
Costi Christodoulou looked primed for his second shutout of the season before Brown's Kojo Dadzie netted the game-winner in the final 10 minutes of the contest. The Big Green nearly had the answer when
Trenton Blake's last-second look cleared the outstretched arms of Brown keeper Hudson Blatteis and hit the crossbar as time expired.
Blatteis posted his fourth clean sheet of the season with four saves, while Christodoulou stopped seven shots – one shy of tying his career high, which was most recently recorded last Saturday against Cornell.
Andrew Ellis led Dartmouth with two shots on goal, while
Orrett Maine and
Vasilis Moiras accounted for one apiece. Charlie Adams was the only Bear with multiple shots on goal.
A corner kick in the seventh minute gave the Big Green an early opportunity, but the other three corners in the first half all sided with Brown. Dartmouth was the beneficiary of corner kicks in the 66th and 74th minutes during a second half where shots on goal were even, 3-3.
Dartmouth's regular season concludes on Saturday, Nov. 4 when Harvard, who has already clinched an Ivy League Tournament berth, visits Burnham Field. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ and NESN+, and fans can follow live stats through DartmouthSports.com.
