No goals allowed in our house; Field Hockey and Men's Soccer Earn Shutouts
In a weekend filled with Ivy League victories by Dartmouth teams, the field hockey and men's soccer teams have been chosen as the best of the best. Sophomore field hockey goalie Ava Carlson earned her first career shutout against Brown. On the soccer pitch junior Kristian Feed led the men to a second league win. Feed scored a goal and assisted on another in the shutout.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Ava Carlson, So., Collingswood, N.J., G, Field Hockey
Field hockey sophomore goalkeeper Ava Carlson enjoyed an impressive weekend, beginning by posting eight saves for her first-career shutout in Saturday's 2-0 win over Brown. It marked the Big Green's first Ivy League win since 2018, first Ivy League shutout since 2012 and first shutout of Brown since 2005. Carlson saved a first-quarter penalty stroke, which proved critical, and Dartmouth wouldn't look back.
As if that wasn't enough, Carlson followed up with a career-high 10 saves in a slim 3-2 loss against New Hampshire to wrap up the homestand.
Kristian Feed, Jr., Sandnes, Norway, M, Men's Soccer
Kristian Feed, playing the full 90 minutes against the Penn Quakers, was crucial for Dartmouth from set pieces. The Big Green drew a free kick 30 yards from goal early in the second half. Feed took the kick, curling the ball into the box connecting with the foot of Alexis Huneau, who redirected it back towards the near post. Vasilis Moiras read it perfectly just in time to tuck the ball into the top corner, giving the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
Finishing with one goal and one assist, Feed scored directly from a free kick from 20 yards out just four minutes later.
The Big Green held the lead to finish with a 2-0 Ivy League win.
