HANOVER, N.H. – In the first-ever meeting between the two sides, the Dartmouth men's soccer team fell to Bryant, 3-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Burnham Field. The Big Green scored inside the first 90 seconds, but the Bulldogs scored the next three to pick up the win.
Dartmouth falls to 4-4-1 while Bryant improves to 9-1-1.
"I think they are one of the best teams in the country, so you give credit to Bryant," said Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Bo Oshoniyi. "At 1-1, we had a chance to make it 2-1 us and things just didn't bounce our way tonight."
The Bulldogs controlled possession for the majority of the game, but the Big Green struck first just 1:21 into the game. After Dartmouth moved the ball around the pitch,
Trenton Blake found an opening, splitting the defense with a through ball to send
Vasilis Moiras towards goal. Moiras got to the ball first, finessing a left-footed effort past Bryant goalkeeper Antreas Hadjigavriel into the back of the net.
Bryant scored the next three goals, with its first coming in the 37
th minute through Marc Pitarch Bayot. Vicente Valor Martinez made a pass similar to Blake's, splitting the Big Green defense to find Pitarch Bayot, who struck the ball past Christodoulou to tie the game.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the final 13 minutes of play, with the first coming off the head of Jonas Lyshoj in the 78
th minute and a long-distance shot from Inigo Villaldea in the 88
th.
The Big Green's best chance of the second frame came in the 53
rd minute with the game still tied at 1-1. Finn Callahan had the ball out on the left wing and cut inside before hitting an in-swinging cross to the six-yard box.
Oskar Magnusson slid to make contact with the ball but hit shot was saved by Hadjigavriel.
Oshoniyi finished by saying, "I'm really proud of the boys, to battle like that against a really good team midweek is great and now we'll get ready for Yale to keep this thing going in the Ivy League."
Dartmouth returns to Ivy League action this weekend with a trip to Connecticut on Saturday to play Yale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
