The honor comes after LaFata recorded 17 kills and hit better than .400 across a pair of three-set wins
HANOVER, N.H. — First-year standout Maddie LaFata helped the Dartmouth volleyball team earn straight-set victories over Columbia and Cornell over the weekend and her efforts were awarded with an Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor, which was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Â
The Fayetteville, Arkansas native had nine kills and hit .400 against Columbia on Friday evening and followed up that performance with eight kills at a .467 clip on Saturday against Cornell. LaFata now has three matches this season with eight or more kills and a hitting percentage of .400 or better as she previously racked up 12 and hit .550 in a five-setter against Fordham in the final weekend of non-conference play.
Â
LaFata is Dartmouth's first Ivy League Rookie of the Week recipient since Ellie Blain, who earned the award early in the 2021 season. Â
Â
The Big Green's weekend sweep also meant season sweeps of Columbia and Cornell, and their two-match win streak will be put to the test this coming weekend with home matches against two of the Ivy League's top three teams. First-place Yale visits on Friday, Nov. 3 and Brown follows on Saturday, Nov. 4.
