HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League office announced its weekly football awards this afternoon with Dartmouth junior Q Jones receiving the Offensive Player of the Week award following his performance in the Big Green's 38-13 victory over Brown on Saturday. This is the sixth weekly award given to a Dartmouth player this season and first on offense.
Jones, a 5-11, 195-pound running back from Fountain, Colorado, ran for a season-high 124 yards (and the most by any Big Green player this season) on 16 carries, two of which went for touchdowns to lead a rushing attack that racked up 392 yards on the ground. His 19-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter began the scoring in the contest, and he added a 38-yard scamper to the end zone with 10:36 left in the half to boost the Dartmouth lead to 14-0 and push him over 100 yards on the day. It was his second career 100-yard game and first since the second week of the 2022 campaign.
Three other Dartmouth players earned a spot on the league's honor roll. Senior linebackers Macklin Ayers and Danny Cronin shared the team lead with 12 tackles while the former was credited with three QB hurries and an assisted tackle for a loss and the latter registered the first of five Big Green sacks on the afternoon and added a QB hurry and an assisted tackle for a loss to his ledger. First-year place kicker Owen Zalc was also included on the honor roll after breaking the conference record for most field goals in a seven-game Ivy League season when he split the uprights on a 25-yard attempt in the third quarter, his 14th in league play and program-record 17th overall this season.
With the victory and Yale's 23-18 win over Harvard, the Big Green (6-4, 5-2 Ivy) shared the Ivy League title with those two teams for its 21st conference crown, the most in Ancient Eight history.
Notes: Dartmouth's other weekly award winners this year were Zalc (three-time rookie and special teams once) and defensive lineman Charles Looes on defense … the last Dartmouth running back to earn the league's Offensive Player of the Week was Dominick Pierre '14 in the 2013 season (10 years ago).
