HANOVER, N.H. – Shae Messner and
Lauren Messier both scored as the Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to Penn State, 8-2, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Thompson Arena. The Nittany Lions scored seven of their eight goals over the course of the first two periods.
The Big Green fall to 2-9-1 while Penn State improves to 8-7-1.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Dartmouth scored its first goal of the night, including two from Stella Retrum. Messner scored the first Big Green of the night with just under four minutes to go in the opening period. Messner forced a turnover and immediately took a shot towards goal, and the puck took a fortunate deflection and found its way into the back of the net.
After Penn State scored another goal before the end of the first period, Dartmouth tallied the first goal of the middle frame with Messier scoring on the power play.
Izee Powell's shot from the point was blocked by a Penn State defender. The rebound fell perfectly into the path of Messier, who calmly shot it into the back of the net for her second goal in as many nights.
The Nittany Lions tallied three goals in the second period and one in the third to bring their total on the night to eight.
Hann Humphreys made their season debut in net for the Big Green, recording seven saves during the third period.
The Big Green outshot the Nittany Lions, 28-23.
