Records are falling on the track this winter
Big Green track and field runners are leaving the records books in the dust as the 2023 indoor season heats up. In his last indoor season, Eric Gibson has taken over the top spot in the 1000m at 2:21.94. On the women's side, number one in the 800m is now held by classmate Julia Fenerty, coming in at 2:05.26.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Eric Gibson, Sr., Annapolis, Md., Distance, Men's Track and Field
Eric Gibson set a new program record in the 1000m race on Saturday at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University. Gibson crossed the finish line at 2:21.94 to claim the top spot in the program record books and boasts the second-fastest time on the Ivy League performance list this season.
Julia Fenerty, Sr., Franklin, Mass., MD, Women's Track and Field
Julia Fenerty broke the program record in the 800m run on Saturday at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University. Fenerty etched her name in the record books with a time of 2:05.26. She now has the fastest 800m run in the Ivy League this season.
