LYNCHBURG, Va. – The fifth-seeded Dartmouth equestrian team put forth a strong performance in the first round of the ECAC Single Discipline Championship on Thursday, but it wasn't enough as the Big Green fell to fourth-seeded Sacred Heart, 7-2. Dartmouth won two points via flats, which included senior
Leah Branstetter earning flat Most Outstanding Player in garnering 166 total points. Sophomore
Chloe Terestchenko also picked up a win, with junior
Rachel Freer tying her opponent in flats.
"We showed a lot of improvement on the flat today," said Dartmouth head coach
Tenley Walsh. "It was great to see
Leah Branstetter win her point at the last meet of her senior year and also be awarded the MOP.
Chloe Terestchenko also had a stand-out flat ride and a big win with a significant point differential."
Branstetter's 166 points beat her opponent from the Pioneers, Emma Grimes, who had 151. Terestchenko was awarded 149 points compared to Sacred Heart's Mia Poppinga, who garnered 130. Freer had 158 points, as did Lilly Bove from the Pioneers, so no team point was awarded.
The Big Green dropped all five points in fences, but all were extremely close with no margin of more than 10 points.
