HANOVER, N.H. — The NCAA announced the selections for the 2023 NCAA Championship preliminary meets on Thursday afternoon, and seniors
Julia Fenerty and
Anya Hirschfeld, junior
Bridget McNally, and freshman
Katherine Strong from the Dartmouth women's track and field team were among the field to compete in the East preliminary.
To qualify for the preliminaries in individual events, student-athletes must be among the top 48 for their event that declared for the meet.
Fenerty qualified for the 800m race. The program record holder in the 800m, Fenerty enters the prelim at No. 13 in the event after finishing with a time of 2:03.81 at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships. Fenerty won the event, earning first team All-Ivy honors, and set an Ivy meet record.
Hirschfeld will take part in the 1500m race. Hirschfeld competed at the Yale Last Chance Meet a weekend ago to bump up her time to move up the performance list ahead of regionals. Hirschfeld completed the race in 4:18.75, a new personal best. She enters the East regional at No. 39.
McNally will compete in the long jump at the East prelim and enters the competition ranked No. 29. McNally broke the program record with a jump of 6.25m at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships, taking second in the event to earn second team All-Ivy.
Strong qualified for the 3000m steeplechase after posting a personal best time of 10:29.31 last weekend at the Yale Last Chance Meet. The freshman is ranked No. 46 heading into the prelim.
Competition begins next Thursday at the University of North Florida, and the NCAA East Regional Preliminary will be available to stream on ESPN+, with live results being provided by the NCAA.
