HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth fifth-year senior Josh Greene is one of 22 football student-athletes, along with one head coach, to be recognized by Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) for their exemplary community impact as members of the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The Big Green long snapper is the first Dartmouth player to earn this honor in the 32 years the team has been selected.
"It is truly an honor to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team," Greene said. "I love playing the game on the field, but being recognized for what I love doing off of it, as well, is just as rewarding. I hope that this inspires not only my teammates to do good in their communities, but others who want to make a difference, too."
Greene founded the Off the Bench Foundation, an organization that has collected and donated nearly $10,000 worth of sporting goods to the Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach since 2012. Following Hurricane Irma, the organization teamed up with local businesses to collect new and used sports equipment.
Additionally, Greene serves underserved youths at the DREAM organization (Directing through Recreation, Education, Adventure and Mentoring), devoting his Fridays to mentees through a variety of fun activities and meals. The philanthropy chair for his fraternity, Gamma Delta Chi, was honored by the Dartmouth Athletics Department this past spring with the Class of 1950 Award, presented annually to the Big Green varsity student-athlete who has demonstrated the most extraordinary commitment to community service.
The Phil Steele All-Ivy League First Team long snapper in 2022, Greene was also selected for the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District I Team in both 2021 and 2022. The government major from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, enters the fall term sporting a 3.63 GPA and last year was the football team's recipient of the Manners Makyth Man Award, given to the Dartmouth player who has best conducted himself to the advantage of the college.
"I'm in awe of what these players have accomplished in terms of service and academics," said Troy Hawkes, executive vice president and general manager of sales at Allstate. "They exemplify what it means to go above and beyond in being a role model and pillars in the community."
The 22 football players that make up the team were selected out of 136 student-athletes who were nominated across the country at all levels of college football, both NCAA and NAIA. Greene is one of three FCS players to be chosen for the prestigious squad.
"It's amazing to see what these athletes have done at such a young age," AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said. "They balance athletics, schoolwork and community service. This is an outstanding group of men who will continue the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team legacy."

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. The AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.
