Women’s Soccer Scores Four in Victory over Iona

The Big Green had four different goal scorers
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team scored a season-high four goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Iona on Wednesday evening at Burnham Field. The Big Green scored twice in each half through four different goal scorers.
With the win, the Big Green improve to 5-0-2 while Iona falls to 1-6-1.
"Overall, we're really proud of the effort from start to finish, top to bottom and it felt good to open up the scoring a little bit," said Taylor Schram, the Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer.
Dartmouth opened the scoring in the 18th minute of play. Danielle Burke split the defense with a pass into the box to Frankie Valverde, whose clever diagonal run opened the space to receive the ball in her path to goal. Valverde's first touch allowed to quickly strike the ball into the top right corner for second goal of the year.
Aspen Anderson scored the final goal of the night for the Big Green late in the game. Jaidyn Curry brought the ball down to the end line and passed it back across towards the penalty spot to Anderson. Anderson's initial shot was blocked off the line but her follow up attempt was smashed into the goal for her first goal of the season.
Dartmouth closes out the non-conference slate on Sunday against UMass Lowell at Burnham Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet. Single-game tickets are available for purchase through the Dartmouth Athletics Ticket Office.
Notes: The historic start continues as the Big Green extend their unbeaten record to seven games, the longest such streak to begin a season in program history.

The Big Green extended the lead minutes later as Burke scored her second of the season. Hailey Rorick picked up her first assist of the year after splitting the defense with a through ball to Burke. The perfectly weighted pass gave Burke the opportunity to calmly tuck it into the corner past Iona goalkeeper Savannah Rogers.GOAL!!

Dartmouth continued to pile on the pressure while dictating play and maintaining possession. Audrey Marin opened her scoring account for the year with just over 16 minutes remaining in the contest. Valverde passed the ball out to the left side of the box to Marin. Marin dribbled past the Iona defender and curled a low shot into the bottom right corner to put extend the lead to three.2⃣-0⃣

Speaking about her first goal of the season, Marin said, "I was really excited to score today, I've been hoping to for a while. Aspen Anderson scored the final goal of the night for the Big Green late in the game.
