HANOVER, N.H. — Wrapping up a five-game homestand against five-time defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Monday night at Leede Arena, the Dartmouth women's basketball team struggled to find its footing in a 63-40 loss to the Tigers, who are currently receiving votes in the AP Top 25 Poll.
Â
The loss moves the Big Green to 6-9 on the season and 0-3 in Ivy League play. Princeton improved to 13-3 and remained perfect in conference action at 3-0.
Â
Mia Curtis, who finished with 11 points and connected on 3-of-5 from deep, was the lone Dartmouth player in double figures. The Tigers, who put 13 different players in the scoring column, also had only one in double figures — Madison St. Rose with a game-high 14 points.
Doreen Ariik and
Clare Meyer tied Princeton's Ellie Mitchell for the game high with six rebounds. Ariik, who leads the Ivy League in blocks per game, matched her career high after rejecting four Tiger shots. She has seven blocks over the last two games, both against 2023 Ivy Madness participants.
Â
The Big Green trailed 9-0 before scoring their first points, and eventually found success looking to Meyer in the post. The sophomore scored on back-to-back possessions to help Dartmouth make an early 7-0 run, but the Tigers responded with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and lead 17-7 entering the second.
Â
Princeton came close to earning its first 20-point advantage late in the second quarter, taking a 31-14 lead on a Paige Morton jumper, before Curtis answered with one of her three triples. Morton had the last bucket of the half and Dartmouth faced a 16-point deficit (33-17) heading into the break.
Â
Dartmouth knocked down 4-of-6 from the perimeter in a 15-point third quarter, its best offensive showing of the evening. The Big Green trailed by 23 before stringing together a pair of 3-pointers from Curtis, and one from
Nina Minicozzi, to salvage a 49-32 margin entering the fourth. The Tiger lead would return to 20 by the 7:10 mark of the final quarter.
Â
Next up for Dartmouth is a visit to Yale, set for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. The game, along with all other Ivy League contests, will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can follow live stats through DartmouthSports.com.
