HANOVER, N.H. — Opening Ivy League play on its home court, the Dartmouth women's basketball team suffered a 65-39 loss to Brown on Saturday afternoon at Leede Arena in the Big Green's first game since Dec. 21.
Â
Dartmouth moved to 5-7 on the season, and begins conference action 0-1, while Brown's 1-0 start to the Ancient Eight calendar improved its record to 10-4.
Â
Victoria Page led the Big Green with 10 points, while
Doreen Ariik narrowly missed her third double-double of the season with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Brown featured three scorers in double figures, led by Isabella Mauricio with a game-high 16, while Alyssa Moreland grabbed 13 rebounds. The Bears knocked down 10 3-pointers, including five in the third quarter.
Â
A slow start handed Dartmouth an 8-2 deficit in the opening minutes, but the Big Green would even things at 10-10 by the 2:40 mark of the first quarter when recent Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree
Nina Minicozzi came up with a steal and made a contested layup on the other end. Brown, however, would end the quarter with a 10-3 run to take a seven-point lead into the second.
Â
Dartmouth stayed within 10 points through the majority of the second quarter, but saw its first double-digit deficit at the 4:05 mark after Kyla Jones' bucket. The Bears led by as many as 15, but settled for a 34-21 lead entering halftime after Ariik connected on a jumper with less than 50 seconds remaining to end a scoring drought of nearly five minutes.
Â
The Bears' 5-for-9 performance from beyond the arc in the third quarter was key in the visitors pulling away. Leading scorer Mauricio, along with Grace Arnolie, made two triples apiece during that stretch while the Big Green offense accounted for just three made field goals. Brown had its first 20-point advantage in the final three minutes of the quarter and garnered a 53-29 lead entering the fourth, where they closed out a 65-39 decision.
Â
The Big Green are back in action at Leede Arena on Sunday when Division III VTSU Lyndon visits for a 4 p.m. tip off. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available through DartmouthSports.com. Single-game and season tickets are available via the Dartmouth Athletics Ticket Office. Â
