BOSTON, MASS. – For their final nonconference match of the 2024 season, the Big Green headed to Northeastern to face the Huskies. Despite an evenly played first half, the Huskies broke away, going on to defeat Dartmouth 4-2.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 4-5-3 overall on the season.
The Huskies got on the board first, tallying a goal in the third minute. Despite falling behind early, the Big Green stuck to their game plan defensively, not letting much get through the defense and turning to create chances offensively.
Dartmouth's strong defense paid off.
Phineas Callahan picked the pocket of a Northeastern defender, walking into the box alone and beating the Huskies' keeper to tie the game at one.
The Huskies would score one more before the half would end though from the penalty spot, taking a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The second half started nearly identical to the first for Northeastern as they went up by two goals in the 47
th minute.
Just under seven minutes later, the Huskies found the back of the net again, going up 4-1.
The Big Green got one back, when Callahan scored again on a free kick cutting his team's deficit to two.
Dartmouth continued to push and create chances offensively, but nothing else would get behind the Huskies' keeper, ultimately falling 4-2.
The Big Green will return to action Saturday for the second half of the Dartmouth soccer doubleheader, hosting Yale for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Burnham Field. The matchup with the Bulldogs will also start four straight Ivy League games for Dartmouth that will conclude their 2024 campaign.
