HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green returned to Burnham Field Saturday, looking for their first Ivy League win since defeating Brown to open conference play.
Dartmouth scored early and often, tallying four goals from four different scorers, en route to a dominant 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
With the win, the Big Green move to 5-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in Ivy League play.
Vasilis Moiras and the Big Green took only 11:45 to get on the board. Moiras, snapping a three-game point drought, picked up the ball right outside the box, dribbled through two defenders, and arched the ball to the top left of the goal, giving his team the lead.
"I just took the ball, I turned, and I saw the ball bouncing and first thing that came to my mind was just to shoot," Moiras said after the game. "So that's what I did and I'm glad it went in"
Less than ten minutes later,
Orrett Maine collected just his second of the season and his career when he no-look headed a
Phineas Callahan cross beyond the Bulldogs' keeper to double the Big Green's lead.
"For me, I've had this game against Yale circled on my calendar for about a year now, stemming from last year. I got a red card early on against them and kind of led to us losing that game," Maine said. "Whenever I saw [
Phineas Callahan] get the ball for my goal, I saw him get the ball wide, cut in, and I was in the box. I found myself getting on the end of the cross, a little flick on, and yeah, just went over celebrating with the fans, it felt great."
While the Bulldogs held the Big Green to only two goals for most of the second half, they finally broke through again. A loose ball off a Bulldogs' throw in found its way to
Kristian Feed who one touched it to Douglas Arveskar. Arveskar wasted no time, beating the keeper in alone to extend his team's lead to three.
Dartmouth would score one more before the game would end.
Trenton Blake picked off a Yale pass in the box, breaking free and finding the far-left side of the night to seal the Big Green's 4-0 victory.
With only three games remaining on the 2024 season, Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Bo Oshoniyi praised the way his team scored goals today, crediting each of the four scorers.
"It's always good when we can get that group scoring goals. I think it's one of the most lethal combination of attackers in the conference," Oshoniyi said.
Not only did the Big Green offense shine, but their defense did as well. Dartmouth held Yale to just three shots, only one of which actually made its way to senior goalkeeper
Costi Christodoulou.
Following the midweek loss to Northeastern, Oshoniyi talked to his team about representing the Dartmouth men's soccer jersey correctly, something he thinks his team accomplished against the Bulldogs.
"We wanted to come out and make sure that people know that this is what we are about," Oshoniyi said "I was proud of the boys for their bounce back and just to take a good Yale team down like that and a dominant performance like that, I think that's more what we want to represent."
The Big Green will return to action a week from Saturday, traveling to last year's regular season champions, Penn. Dartmouth defeated the Quakers on Burnham Field last year, the only team in the league to deal Penn a loss in 2023.
Oshoniyi knows the Quakers will be up for the Big Green and says the key to the game for his squad is "continuing to build on our intensity."
"Tonight, we talked about yes, we had a good performance, but I still think there's a lot more in the tank with this group," Oshoniyi said. "What we're trying to do is pull it all out of them and hopefully we can pull it out of them against Penn and try to get a result out there."
The matchup with the Quakers is set for 7 p.m. and you can stream the game on ESPN+.
