Men’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Penn

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Big Green headed to Penn Saturday, looking to continue their strong play and remain in contention for a spot in the 2024 Ivy League Tournament.
Dartmouth came from two down, but Penn responded, scoring a third goal and ultimately defeating the Big Green, 3-2.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 5-6-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Ivy League play.
The Big Green had their sights set on this match with the Quakers. After dealing them their only conference loss of the season last year at Burnham Field and coming off a dominant 4-0 win over reigning Ivy League Champions Yale last weekend, Dartmouth was looking to continue to make waves in the Ivy League.
The Quakers got out to a quick start, scoring on a corner just over two minutes into the game. Dartmouth continued to push though, catching Quakers' keeper Phillip Falcon off guard, but nothing got by him.
In the 41st minute, Penn jumped on a loose ball in the box, beating Costi Christodoulou. While the play was originally called off due to an offsides, the officials overturned the call, granting Penn the 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 in Penn's favor until the 55th minute. Vasilis Moiras continued his success from last week, delivering another strike from his left foot and far outside the box to cut Penn's lead in half.
Just over ten minutes later, Moiras would light the lamp again. This time from right outside the box and falling to the ground, Moiras collected a pass from Trenton Blake and sailed it past Falcon and into the back of the net to tie the game.
The Big Green continued to try and create chances, but nothing else would beat Falcon, as Dartmouth fell to Penn, 3-2.
Dartmouth men's soccer will return to action next Saturday, welcoming Princeton to Burnham Field for their regular season finale at home. The Big Green will also be recognizing their eight seniors.
