CANTON, N.Y. – The Big Green and Saints battled in the regular season finale, but a productive second period was too much for the Big Green to overcome, falling to the Saints 5-0. With the loss the Big Green close the regular season at 6-20-3 overall and 3-16-3 against ECAC Hockey opponents while the Saints move to 25-9-0 overall and 18-4-0 in the conference.
The first period saw strong defensive efforts for both teams. The Big Green were only able to get a shot on net seven times, while the Saints were held to 10 shots in the period, a stark difference from the 17 shots allowed in the first period Friday against Clarkson. The Saints had one good chance late in the period when a shot rang the post, but the period ended with the score knotted at zero.
St. Lawrence did not hold back in the second period, scoring four goals. Their first came less than two minutes into the period but the Big Green stayed strong on defense for the next seven minutes. The Saints stayed with it though, scoring their next three goals all within two and a half minutes of each other to head into the third with a 4-0 lead.
In the third period, the Saints added one more goal on the power play to seal the victory.
Hann Humphreys made their fifth consecutive start, stopping 24 of the 29 shots they faced.
With the regular season over, the Big Green will turn their focus to the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs and a clean slate. The first round will be played next weekend with the Big Green's opponent and game time still to be determined. More information on Dartmouth's opponent will be made available on DartmouthSports.com
