WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Reminiscent of last Sunday's heartbreaker during the ECAC Championship, the Dartmouth men's tennis team's matchup with No. 73 William & Mary once again came down to the final singles match, with the Tribe pulling out a 4-3 victory.
Â
A close doubles point set the stage for what would be a tightly contested battle between two ranked teams.
Hikaru Takeda and
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez drew the Big Green even with their victory on Court 2, but
Alex Knox-Jones and
Henry Ren were unable to clinch the point at the No. 1 position.
Â
Knox-Jones, Guerrero Alvarez and
Yujiro Onuma each won their respective singles matches (in that order) to provide the Big Green a 3-1 advantage with three matches left to finish. William & Mary then swept all three, capped by Satchel Benn's triumph on Court 2, to seal the 4-3 decision.
Â
Following the narrow defeat, Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, March 2 with NJIT and Bryant both visiting Boss Tennis Center. The NJIT match begins at 9 a.m. and the Bryant match is set for 5 p.m.
