CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth men's track and field team had a good first opening day of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships on Saturday, earning several points in the standings while qualifying numerous athletes to compete in event finals on Sunday.
Albert Velikonja finished fourth in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 8:04.01, taking fourth in the event to earn four points for Dartmouth.
Ben Pable claimed fourth in the weight throw after throwing for a mark of 20.21m, earning four points for the Big Green.
Rahul Batlanki took sixth in the long jump with a mark of 7.11m to earn a point in the overall standings for the Big Green.
Jack Intihar currently sits third in the heptathlon with 2958 points through the first four events. Intihar finished second in the 60m dash and third in the long jump.
Ethan Hughes is currently fifth with 2808 points.
Adrien Jacobs and
Mason Childers both advanced to the finals of the 500m race, finishing in fourth and sixth, respectively. Jacobs finished with a personal best time of 1:03.68 while Childers tied his PR of 1:04.03. Jacobs won Heat 1 and now has the fourth-fastest time in program history for the event.
J'Voughnn Blake won Heat 2 and finished fourth overall in the 800m race with a time of 1:51.16 to advance to tomorrow's finals.
DJ Matusz and
Maclean Hadden advanced to the finals of the 1000m race after finishing second in their respective heats with times of 2:26.51 and 2:27.63.
Baker Pashea also advanced to the finals for the event tomorrow.
The championships resume tomorrow morning at the Gordon Indoor Track. Fans will be able to follow along with live results through Leone Timing or by tuning in on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
