PHILADELPHIA — Opening its weekend of back-to-back Ivy League games, the Dartmouth women's basketball team suffered a 79-41 loss to Penn on Friday evening inside The Palestra.
Dartmouth dropped to 7-17 on the season and 1-11 in the Ivy League, while Penn, vying for a spot in Ivy Madness, improved to 14-11 and 6-6 in the Ancient Eight.
A two-pronged attack of Stina Almqvist and Mataya Gayle paced the Quakers, combining for 39 points. Almqvist had the game high in the scoring column (21) and Jordan Obi grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds. Philadelphia native

Penn connected on 10 of their 24 attempts from deep (41.7 percent) and shot better than 50 percent from the field. The Quakers were 11-of-15 from the floor in the first quarter, jumping out to a 20-point lead with a Floor Toonders bucket in the final seconds, and would later take a 43-15 lead into halftime. The Quakers had their first 40-point lead, their largest of the game, at the 5:34 mark of the fourth after Saniah Caldwell's 3-pointer.
Dartmouth faced a 10-0 deficit before scoring its first points of the evening and
Carrington Washburn helped weather the storm with a pair of first-half 3-pointers. The Big Green were just 4-of-16 from deep and shot worse than 30 percent from the field.
With two games remaining in the 2023-24 season, the Big Green head to Princeton for a 4 p.m. Saturday tip to close the weekend. The season concludes on Tuesday, March 5 with a trip to Harvard.
