HANOVER, N.H. — Playing on its home turf for the first time in the 2024 season, the Dartmouth softball team was defeated 5-2 by Boston College on Tuesday afternoon despite standout performances from the likes of
Alaana Panu and
Jensin Hall.
Â
Hall, who ranks among the top five nationally in strikeouts per seven innings and recently garnered Ivy League Pitcher of the Week, entered in relief of starter
Rachel McCarroll and struck out seven with just one hit and one run allowed through three innings of work. At the plate, the first-year standout was 2-for-3, accounting for a third of the Big Green's hits.
Â
More offensive production came from
Alaana Panu, who was 2-for-4, including a seventh-inning home run – her first of the season.
Â
Boston College was led by Nicole Giery, who racked up three RBIs by way of a two-run homer and an RBI double. The Eagles posted seven hits to Dartmouth's six, and also received a multi-hit performance from leadoff batter Emma Jackson (2-for-4). Starting pitcher Haile Pappion logged three innings before Addison Jackson, the game's winning pitcher, handled the final four.
Â
Boston College grabbed an early lead with Hannah Slike's first-inning RBI double, but the Big Green had the answer in the home half of the first when Panu singled home
Mary Beth Cahalan. The Eagles responded with steady offense in the next two frames, including a two-run third to take a 4-1 lead, before being held scoreless in three straight innings. Hall struck out the side in the top of the fifth, her first inning in the circle, and once again set the Eagles down in order during the sixth.
Â
Continuing their seven-game homestand, the Big Green host Ivy League action for the first time this season when they welcome Yale for a three-game series that starts with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30.
